Dharamshala is a headquarter of the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh in Kangra district. It is located in the shadow of Dhauladhar mountain Ranges, at a height of 1,457 meters above from the sea level, covering an area of almost 8.51 km (3.29 sq mi).
Dharamshala city is divided into two sections like Lower Dharamshala or just Dharamshala and Upper Dharamshala (Also known as Mc Leod Ganj). The main bazaar (Market) is referred as Kotwali Bazaar in the Lower Dharamshala. Total distance between the lower and upper Dharamshala is 9 Km. McLeod Ganj is surrounded by pine, Himalayan oak and rhododendron.
Dharamshala is also known as “Little Lhasa” in India, because of its large population of Tibetans and residence of his Holiness Dalai Lama. The city has many beautiful monasteries, Buddhist temples, culture institute and Buddhist education centers.
Dharamshala also has lush tea gardens which produce its popular Kangra tea. Traditionally known for Kangra green tea, Dharamshala Tea Company conducts guided tours of the tea gardens and tea factory.
