Kinnaur is one of twelve administrative districts in the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. The district is divided into three administrative areas – Pooh, Kalpa, and Nichar and has six Tehsils.
It is located in the north east part of Himachal Pradesh bordering Tibet to the east. It has three high mountains ranges, namely, Zanskar and Himalayas that enclose valleys of Sutlej, Spiti, Baspa and their tributaries.
The administrative headquarters of Kinnaur district is at Reckong Peo. From here Kinnaur Kailash considered to be the abode of Lord Shiva, can be viewed. A mountainous area, ranging in altitude from 2,320 to 6,816 meters above from the sea level.

Kinnaur (District Head Quarter Reckong Peo) is around 235 km from the state capital, Shimla. Approximately 345 Km from Chandigarh city and around 610 km from national capital city of India, New Delhi.
By Road: Regular HRTC (Himachal Road Transport Corporation) buses are available from Shimla and Delhi. Local taxis are also available from Shimla and Chandigarh.
By Air: Nearest Airport are Shimla and then Chandigarh.
