Mandi is situated on the banks of the Beas River at the confluence of the Suketi Khad stream. It is located at the height of 8,00 meters above from the sea level. It is a major town and a municipal council in Mandi District in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh.

Mandi is connected to the Pathankot through National Highway 20 which is around 220 km long and to Manali and Chandigarh through National Highway 21 which is 323 km long. Mandi is approximately 185 km from Chandigarh, the nearest major city and 441 km from New Delhi, the national capital.

Today, Mandi city is well known for its International Mandi Shivaratri Fair. It is first heritage city of Himachal Pradesh. The city also has the remains of old palaces and notable examples of ‘colonial’ architecture. The city had one of the oldest buildings of Himachal Pradesh.

Mandi is the cultural capital of Himachal Pradesh. The people of Mandi are informally called Mandyalis.

Mandi offers its amazing tourist places like:

Prashar Lake, located at an altitude of 2730 meters above from the sea level, is considered to have been a sacred place of Sage Prashar. 

Barot village is an ideal picnic place, situated near the Summer Palace of Mandi Kings, Joginder Nagar Hydel Power Project and Nargu Wildlife Sanctuary.

Himachal Darshan Photo Gallery is around 4 km away from the main Mandi city, on the national highway connecting Chandigarh and Manali.

Chindi Hill Station is situated on a ridge of the Karsog Valley and is surrounded by mountains and dense pine and deodar forests. 

Kamaksha Devi temple at Kao village is dedicated to Kamaksha Devi, an incarnation of Goddess Durga.

Shikari Peak, also known as the Shikari Devi Peak, is the highest mountain peak in the district of Mandi. It is at a height of 11,500 ft above sea level and is perfect for trekking. This peak is famous for the Shikari Devi temple.

From Delhi – The distance between Delhi and Mandi is about 475 km.

From Chandigarh – From Chandigarh there are buses to Mandi and Manali. The buses from Delhi pass through Chandigarh and some buses start from Chandigarh itself. The distance between Chandigarh and Mandi is 200 km.

By Air – The nearest airport to Mandi is the Kullu Airport at Bhuntar, about 75 km from Mandi city.

By Rail – There is currently no railway line, but one is proposed. There is a proposal to extend the Kangra Valley Railway to Mandi and connect it to a new Bilaspur–Leh line.

The nearest railway station currently is the Joginder Nagar Railway Station around 50 km from the city.
