Solan town is a district headquarters of the northern Indian hill station of Himachal Pradesh in India.

It is located 46 km south of the state capital Shimla and situated at an average elevation of 2,502 meters above from the sea level. The place is named after the Hindu goddess Shoolini Devi.

It is known as the “Mushroom city of India, because of the vast mushroom farming in the area as well as the Directorate of Mushroom Research (DMR) situated at Chambaghat.
